Introducing Faxi to your parent
The biggest thing that makes this go well: don’t let your parent brace for “something new.” There’s nothing to learn, so you can keep the introduction relaxed.
Frame it as “a handy fax service,” not new technology
Section titled “Frame it as “a handy fax service,” not new technology”Many families say “I found you a great fax service” rather than “here’s a new thing to learn.” Instead of “let me teach you how it works,” say “you just write on paper and send it to this number, like always.”
Take the first step together
Section titled “Take the first step together”- Print the one-page guide and post it by the fax machine.
- Have them send one message to you, together. Seeing a reply come back as a fax is the most reassuring first step.
- Save your family and their doctor in the address book (→ Managing contacts).
Words you might use

- “Ask it anything you’re unsure about — a recipe, or looking something up.”
- “If it doesn’t work, write ‘Help’ on paper and send it.”
Don’t teach it all at once
